The Haiku man who suffered injuries in a New Year’s Eve collision has died.

Maui Police Department officials report that 32-year-old Tanner Mortensen succumbed to his injuries and died while at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The crash occurred at 8:32 p.m. on Dec. 31 along Ulumalu Road in Haiku.

Preliminary investigation reveals that a 1998 Toyota 4 Runner was traveling south on Ulumalu Road when the operator lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line, and collided into an embankment lined with bamboo trees.

As a result of the collision, the operator was ejected from the vehicle and landed in the roadway.  The driver was transported to Maui Memorial Media Center for treatment.
