The Maui Fire Department and Ocean Safety personnel responded to a 9-1-1 call for two missing diver on Tuesday.
Authorities say the call came in shortly after 11 a.m. for the pair who were reported as having last been in the Haiku-Pauwela area of Maui’s North Shore.
Upon arrival, MFD personnel located the divers unresponsive but out of the water at the bottom of a 130-foot cliff.
Firefighters descended the cliff and began CPR. Rescue 10 and Air 1 were utilized to lift the two victims to the top of the cliff, where EMS personnel were waiting, and life saving efforts continued.
According to MFD, one individual was declared dead at the scene. The second individual was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition, but was declared dead after arrival at the hospital.
