California Woman Suffers Shark Bite in West Maui

A 35-year-old California woman is in stable condition after she was reportedly bitten by a shark in waters off Honokowai Beach Park on Maui.

According to the Maui Fire Department, she was brought to shore by surfers and suffered severe injuries to the front side of her body.

The incident was reported on Thursday at 2:53 PM in the area of “S-Turns.” The call was initially dispatched as a drowning, with the victim being brought to shore by other surfers and already on the beach upon MFD arrival.

Officers from the Department of Land and Natural Resources posted shark warning signs in the area.
