MFD Rescued Pair of Kayakers Off Olowalu

The Maui Fire Department responded to two missing kayakers in the area of Olowalu on Sunday.

Shortly after 4 p.m., crews met with the 9-1-1 caller who reported that two members of her family went out fishing on two kayaks and had not been seen from the shoreline for about two hours.

The two kayaks were spotted empty by MFD’s Air 1, approximately seven miles offshore.

About an hour into the search the pair was spotted about one-mile offshore. They were rescued by a MFD jetski and brought to shore.

Both kayaks were retrieved.

MFD reports that the pair was a 47-year-old and 11-year-old, both males. They were reportedly exhausted but in good condition.
