MFD Responds to Boat in Distress off Maliko Bay

The Maui Fire Department responded to a boat in distress on Thursday morning.

Engine 2 initiated a visual search from the shoreline and first spotted the vessel in question in an area of Pauwela Lighthouse approximately half a mile offshore. The vessel was in tow by another small vessel.

Rescue 10 launches the rescue boat from Kahului Harbor and made contact with the distressed vessel in the area of Maliko Bay. It made contact and safely towed the vessel back to the Kahului Harbor Boat Ramp.

Three men in their 60’s were reportedly spearfishing in the area when they ran into engine trouble. The board with them attempted to tow the disabled vessel back but was making little progress.

No injuries were reported.
