On Friday, September 6 at around 10 a.m. a male snorkeler was reported to be found face down in the water about 30-yards off Black Rock on Kaanapali Beach.

Officials say a Sheraton Maui employee pulled the patient onto the rocks and initiated CPR until Maui Fire Department Jet Ski 3 arrived and brought the patient to shore.

Ocean Safety personnel applied an AED and continued CPR until Engine 3, Ladder 3, Medic 4, and later Medic 5 arrived to continue resuscitation efforts.  The patient was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was a 64-year-old man visiting from Texas. He was using a full face mask with an integrated snorkel.
