Three Rescued at Red Sand Beach

The Maui Fire Department responded to an ocean rescue on Sunday at Red Sand Beach in Hana.

Initial reports noted that five victims were in distress, however, upon arrival two individuals had already exited the water. Two adult males and a 10-year-old boy remained in the water about 150-200 yards offshore.

One of the adults was rescued by a firefighter who jumped into the water, while the child and remaining adult were plucked out by a MFD jet ski.

The trio was airlifted to Hana Ball Field where medics treated the party for water aspiration. Officials say the boy was then flown to Maui Memorial for additional treatment.
