MFD Extinguishes Six Overnight Brush Fires

The Maui Fire Department tended to multiple brush fires along the Pali Highway late Monday night.

Authorities say a total of six fires burned in the area, beginning shortly after 11:30 p.m.

Traffic flow was stopped on both sides of the Pali Highway from Maalaea Harbor Road to Ukumehame Wayside Park while firefighters battled the blazes.

MFD reports that the last fire was out by 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday. Three of the fires were approximately 40-feet-by-40-feet mauka of the highway. The other three first were approximately 200-feet. Those fires were burning along the roadway, burning down the cliffside makai of the highway.

No damages were reported in the incident. The fires are currently under investigation.
