Moloka`i Brush Fire Burns 15 Acres

A brush fire on Moloka`i has burned 15 acres.

County of Maui Department of Fire & Public Safety officials say crews responded to the blaze in the area of Kamalo just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The fire was in an area with heavy, dense kiawe. Fire crews had to move through the entire area to extinguish the flames.

Around 8 a.m. on Thursday the fire was deemed contained. Crews remain on scene tending to hot spots.

Minor property damage was reported. Officials said the extent of that damage is currently unknown.
