Good Eats: Bistro Molokini

With breathtaking views of the pacific ocean and Molokini Crater far off in the distance, Bistro Molokini is a welcome oasis nestled within the grounds of the Grand Wailea. Boasting a new Chef and some delightful new menu items, this eatery for lunch, dinner and happy hour is a majestic yet casual respite from the more formal options in the surrounding area.

Welcome new Chef De Cuisine Jo Soeung

Just six months on the job, Chef De Cuisine Jo Soeung is originally from the Philippines, but has spent 16 years honing her skill sets and manning kitchens in Seattle. Now she calls upcountry Maui her home and she couldn’t be happier to bring her love of her heritage, superb leadership abilities and vibrant personality to the Grand Wailea’s 40-acre Waldorf Astoria Resort.

Menu options are bursting with flavor, innovation and global influences while harnessing the freshness and appeal of local produce from nearby farms. Many we asked from around the island of Maui… didn’t seem to know what, or where Bistro Molokini was, and some wondered if it was new. Surprisingly it is not new, but new to some and offering some great new menu items.

Mushroom Pizza topped with local tomato and mushroom, goat cheese, asparagus and a balsamic vinegar reduction, the pizza dough is made in-house daily by the hotel’s pastry team. This pizza was impeccable start to finish.
Pancake Batter Fried Onion Rings, this was an innovative take on a staple and oh so crunchy, almost like a panko batter. Delicious!
Fan Favorite Poke Nachos, a generous portion with extremely market fresh ahi and delicately seasoned, not over bearing.
Ahi Kinilaw prepared with Haiku chicharrones, calamansi, coconut, Hawaiian chili pepper, Kula sweet onion and ginger. This is Chef’s newest addition to the menu and reminds her of home. The flavors are complex yet refreshing.
Baked Alaska – local take on a classic dessert but with Banana Gelato
Molokini Bistro offers validated parking, Kama’aina Discount of 20% off and Happy Hour 3-6pm daily, in addition to exceptional family dining and vegetarian options.
