Kayakers Rescued Near Molokini

The Maui Fire Department responded to a 11:51 a.m. call on Sunday to assist two kayakers, one male and one female, near Molokini.

According to MFD, the two were unable to fight the current back to Maui after setting off earlier in the day from Black Sand Beach.

With the assistance of lifeguards on a rescue watercraft from Makena, and the Coast Guard from Maalaea, MFD was able to retrieve the kayakers
along with their kayak.

There was no need for medical attention.

The Coast Guard brought the kayakers as close as possible to Makena Landing so lifeguards on the watercraft could bring them to shore with the assistance of Wailea Fighters, per MFD.

The fire fighters assisted the kayakers with retrieving their vehicle at Black Sand Beach.
