Vessel Brings In A Thousand Pound Cargo Net

Lahaina Harbor agent Miles Lopes from DLNR’s Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) wants to say a big mahalo to the crew of the Quicksilver for helping clean up marine debris by recently bringing in a large cargo net that they found off Shark Fin Rock on the southwest shoreline of Lana’i.

Lopes says the company that took in the 1,000-pound net is called Sharkastics. They work with the nonprofit Hawaii Association for Marine Education & Research.

DOBOR removed the net off the vessel and onto its truck last week Friday, and on Monday of this week, CDF Engineering (who works with Sharkastics) took the net from the truck to the Shartastics’ yard.

There, they plan to use parts of the net to create artwork related to marine debris.
