Safeway celebrated the re-grand opening of its newly remodeled store in Lahaina Cannery Mall on Wednesday.
The 60,000-square-foot store held a private blessing, followed by a brief program and check presentations to local nonprofits. The activities continued with in-store sampling of fresh-cut produce, poke and local items.
Located on Honoapiilani Highway, the store’s new footprint increased by more than 25,000 square feet, with expanded departments such as deli, bakery, a fresh seafood and poke section, bulk foods, wine and spirits, and prepared food offerings – including sushi, a wing bar and hot soups. Customers will enjoy hundreds of organic, natural, local and healthier-for-you choices, including fresh-cut fruit and vegetables.
“We are excited to unveil the highly upgraded and transformed store in Lahaina,” said George Glukfeld, Hawai`i General Manager. “The extensive enhancements we’ve made will give our customers a wide assortment of food options in one convenient location at our largest store on Maui.”
The remodeled store also has a Starbucks with cafe seating, a wine cellar, an extensive line of Boar’s Head premium deli meat and cheeses, custom made deli trays as well as a large cheese station, a made-to-order poke bowl bar, salad bar and Asian hot foods.
The store is open 24 hours a day, and led by Store Director Bobby Galapon and employs 175 team members, nearly 100 are new employees.
In celebration of the re-grand opening, the Boys and Girls Club of Maui and Lahainaluna High School Foundation were each presented with a $1,500 charitable contribution from Safeway.
