Stolen Truck Hits SUV, Causes Traffic Delays On The Pali

On Monday, January 1, 2018, at approximately 2:15 p.m., a head-on collision occurred on Honoapiilani Highway (30) near the scenic lookout on the Pali. The collision occurred when a silver 2016 Toyota pickup was traveling towards Wailuku when it crossed left of center and struck a white 2006 Nissan SUV that was traveling in the opposing lane of travel. The operator of the Toyota fled the scene. The operator of the Nissan was transported to the emergency room for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The Toyota was later found to have been reported stolen. Police subsequently located the operator of the Toyota and arrested him for the offense of Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle. The operator was identified as a 22-year-old male from Maalaea. He was released pending further investigation.
