Fire burns 2 acres of brush in Olowalu

At approximately 3:29 a.m. this morning, fire units responded to a brush fire in the Olowalu area near MP 14.

Engine 3, Tanker 3, and BC 4 arrived on scene and found an active brush fire at the base of the mountain which was initially not accessible due to blocked roads. At that time, West Maui Land Company was called and assisted with a loader to clear blocked roads, and a water tanker to assist with firefighting operations.

The fire burned approximately 2 acres of light brush and kiawe and has since been 100% contained. There are still some hot spots located well within the perimeter of the fire which crews will assess and address today. No homes were threatened and there are no injuries to report. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
