Little Trucker Dukes Made Honorary Firefighter

Trucker Dukes the brave child admired by many for his fight with cancer took the Firefighter Oath making him an honorary Maui Fire Department Fire Fighter. Fire Chief Jeff Murray presented Trucker with a certificate and a personalized set of “turn out gear” at the Kahului Fire Station with Mayor Alan Arakawa and Maui Chief of Police Tivoli Faaumu in attendance.

Trucker and his Maui Firefighter (MFF) dad, Joshua Dukes and mom, Shauna Dukes joined Trucker in this special ceremony. Trucker then sprayed a fire house and enjoyed chocolate cake with MFFs representing island-wide fire crews. Trucker is home for one week and will return to NYC for chemotherapy. He is 2 years old and was diagnosed with neuroblastoma one year ago this month.

Here is the verbiage on Trucker’s firefighter oath: “I, Trucker, Honorary Firefighter for the County of Maui, Department of Fire and Public Safety, do solemnly swear on this 14th day of December, 2015, to fight hard against cancer, to love my parents, family, and friends, to continue to be as strong and brave as I have been for the past year, to light up the lives of everyone around me with my smile and laugh, and to never lose my hope or my spirit, so help me God.”
