REVIEW: Maui Fresh Streatery – Celebrates First Anniversary

My very first Food Adventure was today with AZD and G-Money. We decided to check up on the food truck, “Maui Fresh Streatery.” Coincidentally, this week marks their one year anniversary of being open. The brainchild of chef, Kyle Kawakami, the menu centers around a farm-to-table strategy. The menu changes every two weeks, in conjunction with what is grown around the local farms.

This week is one of their most popular menus: Korean! I got the famous “Seoul Bowl” which is: Korean marinated and grilled pork belly (READ- Really thick slices of BACON), 65 degree sous vide soft boiled egg (think of a PERFECTLY poached egg), kimchee, pickled Kumu Farms kale, marinated bean sprouts, daikon, and wake salad, all served over white rice.korean1 AZD got “The Other KFC” plate: Twice fried Korean Chicken wings dipped in a spicy kochujang sauce served with Kumu Farm’s organic field green salad, homemade kim chee, and steamed white rice. All 3 of us got the crowd favorite, “Gangnam Fries”- crispy crinkle cut fries garnished with chopped khalbi beef, kimchee mayo, kale glaze, crispy fried garlic, shaved scallions, and Korean nori. We also tried 4 of their desserts: Pineapple Crème Brûlée, Plain Crème Brûlée, Strawberry Cheesecake, and the Salted Caramel Cheesecake.

Here at MAUIWatch we rate the food on a 1-5 STAR scale. 1 STAR being the lowest and 5 STAR being “broke-da-mouth.”

Our consensus on the “Gangnam Fries” is that it received 5 STARS all around. That had to be one of the most creative ways to garnish french fries I have ever had! I also give the ” Seoul Bowl” 5 STARS because umm, helllo.. PORK BELLY! I only wish the whole bowl had more slices. Can I have pork belly with a side of everything else? Just kidding!

G-Money rated “The Other KFC” plate- 4 STARS. I give it 3 STARS because it was a little too sweet for my taste and it did not taste spicy to me. Then again, I am “Thai Spicy” as opposed to “American Spicy.” (You know how it is when you order Thai food and you say “Thai Spicy” to get the reallllly good stuff!)

Now for the desserts!! The 4 that we tried were all rated 5 STARS. However, the 3 of us agreed that the Salted Caramel Cheesecake was the WINNER!! Just the right amount of salty and sweetness. AZD and G Money thought the Pineapple Crème Brûlée was the 2nd best, while I liked the Strawberry Cheesecake. With the prices at $4 for the Brûlée’s and $3 for the Cheesecakes, I definitely recommend getting a dessert with your meal!! Our overall experience with Chef Kawakami deserves 5 STARS.

“Maui Fresh Streatery” is located at the Shell Station across from Maui Beach Hotel. They are opened Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11am- 2pm. They have such a huge following via social media that sometimes they do run out, so make sure to get there early!

As mentioned earlier, “Maui Fresh Streatery” is celebrating their 1 year anniversary this week. And guess what they will be doing to thank everyone for all their support? They will be GIVING AWAY mini salted caramel and strawberry cheesecakes to the first 50 guests on Wednesday and Friday! Yes, the exact ones we tried that we rated 5 STARS!! If you have ever wanted to try their food truck, now is the time!
Follow “Maui Fresh Streatery” on instagram @Mauifreshstreatery and their Facebook page to be kept up to date on their menu changes and specials. Happy Anniversary Chef and we look forward to more years ahead.

Can’t wait for the next Food Adventure!
