August 2 WEATHERWatch

GENEVIEVE has restrengthened into a tropical storm again – not to worry though, the forecast track keeps moving the storm west and away from us. Some moisture associated with GENEVIEVE has affected Maui County overnight and into this afternoon but the tropical cyclone itself will not have a direct impact on the islands.

In Maui County we expect occasional passing showers banked against our windward slopes. Some may pass leeward from time to time on our trades. An afternoon leeward thunderstorm is not totally out of the question, even though it’s not particularly unstable, locally heavy rain is possible.

A drying trend is expected to begin tonight. Looking out to late next week (Thu/Fri) we could see yet another surge of deep tropical moisture affecting the state. This bout of wet weather would be due to hurricane ISELLE. It’s still too far out to say exactly what effect ISELLE will have on our weather here in Maui County but models are trending toward another round of soggy conditions. Stay tuned for forecast updates during the next several days.
