High surf and strong currents led to an ocean rescue in Ka`anapali on Monday.
County of Maui Department of Fire & Public Safety officials say that the incident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m., when a male and female in their 30’s were swimming but unable to make it back to shore because of ocean conditions.
After clinging to Black Rock and waving for help, the pair was able to reenter the water and were brought to shore by lifeguards, utilizing a rescue watercraft.
Awaiting firefighters tended to the man and woman who suffered cuts. The refused further treatment.
