MFD Responds to Report of Injury at Flemings Beach

At 3:42 p.m. on Monday, Maui Fire Department firefighters and Ocean Safety personnel were called to report of a 68-year-old woman who had been injured in the shore break at Flemings Beach.

A fire crew from Napili responded to assist Ocean Safety personnel from Tower 11 right there at Flemings.

Reports indicate that the patient had been tossed in the two-to-three foot shore break and was helped to the beach by family. Ocean Safety personnel provided emergency medical care including packaging the patient for transport to the ambulance.

The patient was alert and fully oriented and without outward signs of serious trauma, although personnel were concerned about signs and symptoms consistent with spinal injury.

Upon their arrival the fire crew assisted with extricating the patient from the beach to an awaiting ambulance, which transported the patient to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.
