MFD Responds to Hiker Injured Near La Perouse

At 10:39 a.m. on Tuesday, Maui Fire Department firefighters were called to reports of an injured hiker on a trail in the lava fields south of La Perouse Bay in Makena.

On scene, crews utilized an ATV to gain access to the victim who was located approximately 1.5 miles in on the rough trail. The victim was then brought out to the parking area at La Perouse Bay via ATV where Medics initially treated her for several cuts and a possible broken wrist.

These injuries were reportedly from a fall which occurred while the victim was hiking with family on the rough lava trail.

The victim is described as a 73-year-old female visitor from Portland, Oregon.

Firefighters from Wailea responded.
