Wastewater Overflow Contained in Kahului

The County of Maui’s Department of Environmental Management reported that a wastewater overflow of approximately 1,944 gallons occurred on June 7, 2018 on Maalo Street, Kahului. The overflow was caused by a blockage of grit and pieces of PVC pipe in the main line. The overflow was reported at 8:45 p.m. and was stopped by 10:30 p.m.

The wastewater flowed from a manhole along Maalo Street and ended in a French drain. The overflow did not reach the ocean. All spill waters was removed and all affected areas was disinfected. The State Department of Health has been notified.
