Molokai Firefighters Respond to Brush Fire at Manawainui Gulch

At approximately 10:00 this morning, Molokai firefighters responded to reports of a brush fire in the area of Manawainui Bridge.

Engine companies from Hoolehua and Kaunakakai, as well as a Tanker were dispatched. On scene, units found an area of 250 feet by 40 feet of brush on fire. Personnel from a construction company were already on scene assisting with containing the fire using a backhoe.

MFD crews deployed hoselines and were able to contain and extinguish the fire within an hour. It appears the fire may have been sparked by a high voltage power line which had been severed and fell to the ground. There were no homes threatened and no injuries to report.
