UPDATE: Loose Sheet Metal Causes Molokai Power Outage

Power is currently being restored to parts of Moloka‘i as Maui Electric crews continue to bring other areas back online after an island wide outage was triggered around 10:05 a.m. on Tuesday morning when a loose sheet of roofing flew onto power lines, bringing down the lines along Mauna Loa Highway near the landfill and recycling center.

Approximately 3,229 customers on Moloka‘i were affected when the roofing caused a fault on the system, resulting in damaged equipment at the Pala‘au Power Plant.

Around 10:05 a.m. on Tuesday, an island wide outage affecting approximately 3,229 customers on Moloka‘i occurred.

Maui Electric Light officials say the outage was triggered after a loose sheet of roofing flew onto power lines, bringing down the lines along Mauna Loa Highway near the landfill and recycling center.

Maui Electric crews are working to safely restore power as quickly as possible.
