Faith Action for Community Equity (FACE) Maui today announces an Affordable Housing Mayoral Candidate Forum for June 28, 2018 from 6 – 8pm at Valley Isle Fellowship Church at 1033 Waiale Road, Wailuku. All mayoral candidates for 2018 will be invited to participate in the forum and three have already confirmed.
According to State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) 2015 report states that Maui County will need to produce approximately 14,000 housing units by the year 2025 to keep up with the public need. We can no longer afford to continue the current policy of “business as usual” which has led us to this housing crisis that is affecting the social fabric of Maui’s residents. The primary focus of the forum is to find out from the candidates on what policies and initiatives they will pursue to address Maui’s housing crisis facing our residents and how they will pay for those new policies and initiatives.
In preparation for the upcoming forum, FACE Maui wants to know what housing questions you may have for the mayoral candidates. We invite you to send those questions to [email protected] or to the FACE Maui Facebook page by June 15, 2018. FACE Maui wants your voice to be heard on the housing crisis and reminds you to vote in our primary and general elections.
