Starting in April a new cohort for the MyPI Hawai‘i Disaster Preparedness training program will be delivered in Kīhei. The program is being offered through the University of Hawai‘i Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development Program. Youth ages 13-18 are eligible for participation.
The My PI Hawai‘i Disaster Preparedness program trains youth in Fire Safety and Suppression, Light Search and Rescue, CPR and AED training, and other subjects to complete the Teen CERT program. In addition, youth work with family and friends to develop Emergency Kits and Plans in the community. The program will be offered on Saturday mornings from 9:00am – 12:30pm at the Hope Chapel classroom in Kihei.
The tentative schedule is as follows:
- April 7 – Disaster Preparedness & Fire Safety
- April 14 – Disaster Medical Operations & Search and Rescue
- April 28 – CERT Organization, Disaster Psychology & Terrorism
- May 5 – CERT Annexes & Course Review
- May 12 – CPR/AED and HAM Radio
Students do not need to be current 4-H or Hope Chapel members to participate in the program and there is no cost to participate.
