Postage Rates Increase in 2018

Beginning Sunday, the United States Postal Service  will implement new postage rates for several mailing and shipping products.

Among the changes postal customers can anticipate are an increase in Domestic First Class Mail Letters (1 ounce) that will be bumped up a penny from $0.49 to $0.50. Additional ounces will cost $0.21.

The discounted “Metered Mail” category for First Class Mail Letters (1 ounce), which includes online postage providers and postage meters, will also increase by a penny from $0.46 to $0.47. Each additional ounce will cost $0.21.

First Class Mail Flats (1 ounce) will increase from $0.98 to $1.00. Each additional ounce will also cost $0.21.

Postcard rates will increase one cent to $0.35.

In addition, changes have been made in Domestic Shipping prices.

Priority Mail Express will see an overall rate increase of 3.9 percent in 2018. Commercial Base (online postage) rates will start at $21.98, they were previously $21.18.

Priority Mail will also see an average rate increase of 3.9 percent in 2018. Commercial Base (online postage) rates will start at $6.55, they were previously $5.95.

First Class Package Service will see an average rate increase of 3.9 percent in 2018. Commercial Base (online postage) rates will start at $2.66, they were previously $2.61.

Parcel Select Ground will see an average rate increase of 4.9 percent in 2018. Commercial Base (online postage) rates will start at $6.55, they were previously $5.95.

Media Mail will see an average rate increase of 3.9 percent in 2018. Rates will start at $2.66, they were previously $2.63.

International Shipping pricing will also see some slight bumps in costs.

Priority Mail Express International will see an average rate increase of 3.9 percent in 2018. Commercial Base (online postage) rates will start at $40.38, they were previously $38.90.

Priority Mail International will see an average rate increase of 3.9 percent in 2018. Commercial Base (online postage) rates will start at $31.35 they were previously $30.16.

First Class Package International Service will see an average rate increase of 3.9 percent in 2018. Commercial Base (online postage) rates will start at $9.50, they were previously $9.03.
