No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 7.0 quake hits New Caledonia

A large earthquake has shaken the Loyalty Islands in New Caledonia, but there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

The quake occurred at around 12:44 PM and initially measured at a magnitude of 7.3, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A tsunami threat exists for parts of the Pacific located closer to the earthquake. However, based on all available data there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
