Authorities Searching for Driver After Man Dies in Wailuku Hit-and-Run

On Sunday, October 15, 2017 at approximately 07:54 p.m., a Motor Vehicle Collision occurred on Waiale Road north of Waiinu Road in Wailuku. The collision occurred as a vehicle traveling north on Waiale Road hit a pedestrian walking east across the roadway. The vehicle fled prior to police arrival.

The pedestrian was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The pedestrian has since been identified as 54 year old Floyd Nahinu Jr. of Wailuku.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the vehicle involved is a white-colored pick-up truck with an extended cab.

The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol are unknown at this time as the investigation is on-going.

This is Maui County’s 13th traffic fatality for 2017 as compared to 16 the same time last year.
