West Maui fire crews responded to a brush fire near the Lahainaluna High School campus just before 1 p.m. on Monday.

Upon arrival firefighters found about an acre of dry grass and brush burning in a vacant lot above the school’s football field.

The fire department’s Air-1 helicopter also conducted water drops to prevent the fire from spreading upslope. The fire scorched a total of two acres before it was finally brought under control at 1:30 p.m.

The fire was extinguished at 4:26 p.m.

There were no injuries and no structures were threatened. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

A battalion chief, two companies and a water tanker from Lahaina and Napili responded to the brush fire.
