On Friday, August 18, 2017, at approximately 4:43 p.m., a Motor Vehicle Collision occurred on West Kamehameha Avenue south of Alehela Street in Kahului. The collision occurred as a motorcyclist, operating a white 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle traveling north on West Kamehameha Avenue, lost control and fell onto the roadway. The motorcyclist then slid on the roadway and collided with a white 2004 Honda Civic four-door sedan that was traveling south on West Kamehameha Avenue making a left turn onto Alehela Street.
The male operator of the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The operator of the Honda Civic, a 45-year-old male from Kahului, was not injured in the collision.
The operator of the motorcycle has since been identified as 27-year-old Taylor K. Siverly Guido of Kahului.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Siverly Guido was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The operator of the Honda Civic was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The involvement of speed, drugs, and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.
This is Maui County’s seventh traffic fatality for 2017 as compared to eleven the same time last year.
