At 12:21 p.m. Thursday, West Maui responded to Honolua Bay for an unresponsive female that was pulled from the ocean.
According to Maui Fire Department officials, firefighters from Napili arrived at the bay at 12:29 p.m. and found bystanders performing CPR on a female victim near the water’s edge.
Firefighters continued CPR until paramedics arrived to provide advanced life-saving measures.
The female victim eventually regained a pulse, and paramedics rushed her to the Napili Ball Park where a helicopter medevac was standing by. The victim was a 19-year-old woman from California was flown to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
MFD officials say the California woman was snorkeling at the popular snorkel spot with family members when the incident took place. Other snorkelers found the victim floating unresponsive and pulled her to shore, where bystanders jumped in to provide CPR.
Firefighters from Napili and Lahaina, along with ocean safety lifeguards from D.T. Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua responded to the incident.
