California Visitor Pulled from Waters off Napili Point

At 3:11 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2017, fire crews in west Maui responded to a male snorkeler that was pulled from the water at Napili Point, 5295 Lower Honoapiilani Road.

Fire crews from Lahaina arrived on scene at 3:22 p.m. and found bystanders performing CPR on the male victim. Firefighters continued CPR until paramedics arrived and began advanced life support measures.

Despite all efforts, the 68-year-old man from California was pronounced dead at the scene.

The California man had been snorkeling with a friend not far from shore when the friend noticed that the man was not moving. The friend brought him to shore and bystanders helped to carry the victim out onto the shoreline.

Lahaina firefighters responded to the incident since the Napili fire crew were tied up at another emergency call.
