UPDATED: Police at scene of possibly armed and barricaded man in Kula

Maui Police Department responded to the scene of a barricaded man that is said to be armed in the area of Hi’ipali Loop on Sunday.

A call came in around 12:43 p.m. when a female reported that the male party sent her a video saying that he was going to attempt suicide. He was reportedly holding a shotgun in the video.

Officials started closing the nearby area around 1 p.m. with medics and fire staged in the vicinity.

Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Okamoto tells MAUIWatch that, “They are treating it as a barricaded subject.”

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
