Man nearly drowns while snorkeling off Napili Bay

At 10:18 a.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017, firefighters responded to a male pulled from the water at Napili Bay in West Maui

Firefighters from Napili were on scene at 10:27 a.m. and found an adult male on the beach, conscious and breathing. Paramedics treated the man, then transported him to Napili Park where he was loaded onto a medevac helicopter and transferred to Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious condition.

The man, an 81-year-old California visitor, was snorkeling with a family member when he was found face-down and unresponsive in the water. Bystanders pulled him to shore and performed CPR. The man quickly regained consciousness and began breathing on his own.
