Chang’s Beach reopened after a Unexploded Ordnance found

Navy EOD along with DOCARE arrived on scene at approximately 3:15 pm.  The object was deemed old and very deteriorated so it was not moved far for safety reasons.  It was moved to a sand beach approximately 75 yards north of 4950 Makena Road.  It was identified as possibly a 1940’s WW II mortar round.  It was buried in the sand and detonated using a very small charge at approximately 3:45 pm.  No incidents, damage or harm to anything.  All personnel departed the scene at 4:00 pm.


The location is the area of “Five Graves”, approximately 150  yards north of Makena Landing at 4950 Makena Road.
