From Disney’s Moana Aulii Cravalho, Irie Love, Kimie Miner, recent Grammy winner Kalani Pe’a are just a few wearing MANAOLA… Hawaiians from around the globe have been sporting locally inspired, designed and crafted looks by MANAOLA. The lifestyle brand, created by Manaola Yap, launched in the Spring of 2014 and has reached international notoriety for one-of-a-kind, unique, “sacred” geometric prints that resonate with island life.

I first met Manaola back when I worked at KHON2. The Polynesian Cultural Center was celebrating their anniversary and invited me to make a cameo appearance in the Ha – Breath of Life show. To their surprise I didn’t know how to dance the hula, cue Manaola. A vivacious and talented young gentleman who met with me several times over the course of a month to share with me the choreography and be my dancing partner in the live show. Fast forward a couple of years and he successfully launched his own production company and then the self-taught designer starts to showcase his fashion designs.

Through the use of networking, social media and other visible platforms the MANAOLA brand has grown immensely over the years; selling out at the 2015 Merrie Monarch Festival and appearing at Honolulu Fashion Week 2016. Available online or at Hula Lehua at Ala Moana Center, fashionistas are hungry for more so MANAOLA decided to head to Maui.
