Heavy rainfall prompt Flash Flood Watch and Warning for Maui

At 6:24 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over east Maui. Rain was falling at a rate of 2 inches per hour. Stream levels are risking rapidly. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

Locations in this warning include but are not limited to: Kihei, Pukalani, Haliimaile, Pauwela, Kipahulu, Ulupalakua, Wailea, Huelo, Hana, Nahiku, Haiku-Pauwela, Paia and Makawao.

The National Weather Service has ISSUED a FLASH FLOOD WARNING for the ISLAND OF MAUI in effect until 9:30 p.m.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or will develop quickly.

This warning may be extended if flash flooding persists.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for Maui County through Wednesday afternoon.
