UPDATE: Inmate Capobianco thwarted from attempting to bring drugs into MCCC

On Sunday, February 19, 2017 at about 7 p.m., a 49 year old female attempted to pass suspected illegal narcotics to 27 year old Steven Capobianco during a visitation at the Maui Community Correctional Center (M.C.C.C.) where Steven is currently being held.

The female was unsuccessful and both were taken into custody.

Steven Capobianco and the female were arrested for Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree and released pending further investigation.

Steven remains in custody at M.C.C.C.

Yesterday, at approximately 6:45 p.m. a male inmate at the Maui Community Correctional Center (MCCC) was caught with contraband in his possession. The inmate is identified as Steven Capobianco.

The item, wrapped in black tape, was recovered by correctional officers during visitation hours at the facility. Capobianco was arrested by Maui Police and faces possible contraband possession-related charges. The contraband incident is under investigation by the Maui Police Department.

“I commend our staff for their fast work in responding to a suspicious incident, and discovering the contraband quickly and efficiently,” said Public Safety Director Nolan Espinda. “Staff did everything they were trained to do.”

Capobianco is pending re-trial for Murder 2 and Arson 2. He is incarcerated at MCCC, awaiting sentencing for those charges.
