Magnitude 7.9 earthquake strikes off Papua New Guinea, No Tsunami threat for Hawaii

The U.S. Geological Survey says a preliminary 8.0 earthquake has occurred near the New Ireland Region of Papua New Guinea. The Pacific Tsunami warning center has issued a tsunami threat message for other parts of the pacific located closer to the earthquake. The magnitude was later decreased from 8.0 to 7.9 on the 1:27 AM update.

1:27 AM UPDATE: BASED ON FURTHER EVALUATION THERE IS NO TSUNAMI THREAT TO HAWAII.
