UPDATE: High Winds knock out power in Central Maui

At about 11:28 a.m. today, during a period of gusty winds, approximately 1,330 customers in the Kahului area experienced a power outage. All customers were restored by 12:12 p.m.

After crews inspected the power lines in the area, it is suspected the high winds caused the lines to “swing short” or come into contact with each other along Papa Avenue.

Electrical service has been restored to all customers in the Kahului area. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you are still experiencing an outage, please contact our Trouble Line at (808) 871-7777 or toll-free 1-877-871-8461 for Molokai and Lanai.

Maui Electric Company would like to inform the public that area near the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center is experiencing a power outage. Maui Electric is working to identify the cause and restore electrical service as quickly and safely as possible. An update will be provided as soon as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
