Early morning power outage affects Maalaea and South Maui, Road closures reported

At approximately 2:22 AM, the Maui Electric Company’s emergency response crews responded to the Maalaea area due to multiple reports of a power outage in the area. It is unknown what caused the rolling power outages for Maalaea and South Maui at this time. Crews were able to restore partial power at around 3 AM this morning. Power was fully restored to most customers at around 4 AM this morning.

At this time, we’ve learned that State DOT-Highway’s Division, MECO emergency response crews, and Hawaii TEL COM crews are in the area of North Kihei Road and South Kihei Road repairing electrical poles. The Maui County Police Department has law enforcement officers providing traffic control and scene security at this time. Please use the Mokulele Highway to access the Piilani Highway. There is no estimated time of completion for these emergency repairs.
