Migrant Maui to close in May

The restaurant known for it’s “modern local cuisine” will close its Wailea doors on May 15, 2016. The main objective of the award-winning restaurant’s chef, management and staff is to find a new Maui location, but details have not yet been finalized.

Located at the Wailea Beach Marriott, Migrant launched at the end of 2013 and has since taken its plantation style food, with a modern twist, to new heights. The lease at the Wailea Marriott will expire and a new tenant, Roy’s Restaurant, is expected to renovate and reopen in the Migrant location.

“After the temporary closure, we will be reopening in a new location in the upcoming months, stay tuned, Executive Chef Sheldon Simeon said.

Simeon is a multi-award winning chef with many accolades to his name including Food & Wine’s The People’s Best New Chef 2014 (northwest and pacific), Hawaiian Rising Star Chef 2012 and James Beard Foundation: Rising Star Chef of the Year, semifinalist 2011.

Since opening Migrant has been my go-to spot for craft cocktails and mind-blowing bites and entrees.
