Molokai Brush Fire Scorches 2 Acres in Kawela

On 12/11/14 at 2:14 PM, Kaunakakai, Hoolehua and Pukoo Fire fighters responded to the Kawela area / Uluanui Road for a report of a brushfire. Crews arrived to an area about 2 acres of brush, involved in fire. Air-1 flew in from Maui to assist fighting this fire. The fire was brought under control at 3:11 PM. Mop up operations are being conducted at this time. No injuries were reported and no evacuations took place. The fire was caused by a backhoe digging and hitting an underground powerline.
