Between October 6th and 19th, members of the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division, in conjunction with similar efforts by the Patrol Divisions, participated in a two week enforcement campaign targeting stop sign and red traffic light violations on our roadways.
Police conduct these traffic enforcement campaigns because they have an obligation to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities in the community.
As with all traffic enforcement campaigns the goal is to raise awareness, educate the public and to gain voluntary compliance. Working together can drastically reduce traffic collisions and reach the ultimate goal of zero preventable traffic deaths.
The traffic safety initiative, resulted in the following enforcement action:
- DISREGARDING STOP SIGN & RED TRAFFIC LIGHT CITATIONS ISSUED: 359
- DRIVING WITHOUT A DRIVERS LICENSE CITATIONS ISSUED: 69
- NO MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE CITATIONS ISSUED: 134
- DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE ARRESTS: 32
Although the campaign has come to an end, the impact and awareness raised during this short initiative will continue to reduce traffic collisions and improve the safety on our roadways for quite some time.
Police remain committed to improving the safety of the community by increasing compliance with traffic laws through education and enforcement. Remember to always drive carefully and obey all traffic laws.
