Chief Tivoli Faaumu has selected Assistant Chief Dean Rickard to be his new Deputy Police Chief. Rickard, a 27-year police veteran was just recently promoted in January to Assistant Chief where he was responsible for the administrative support and internal control functions comprised of the Technical Services Division, Communications Section, Community Relations Section, Plans, Training, Research and Development Section; and I.T. Technical Support Unit.
Deputy Chief Rickard graduated from Chadron State College in Nebraska with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He began his career in 1987, after graduating from Recruit Academy; Rickard was assigned to the Lahaina Patrol District, serving on the Crime Reduction Unit in 1988. In 1994, he was assigned to the Vice Division, in the Narcotics Section. In 1999, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Receiving Desk, Wailuku Patrol District, Criminal Investigation Division and Criminal Intelligence Unit. In 2006, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as Commander in the Plans, Training, and Development Section. In 2009, he was promoted to Captain and assigned as the Commander of the Molokai and Wailuku Patrol Districts and Criminal Investigation Division.
Deputy Chief Rickard attended the FBI National Academy and graduated in 2012.
He is married to Stephanie and has three children, two daughters Tekiri and Teani, and a son Teanu.
Swearing-in Ceremonies for Chief Tivoli Faaumu and Deputy Chief Dean Rickard will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014, 11:30 AM at the Kihei Police Station. Judge Richard T. Bissen will be officiating their Oath of Office.
